American Sign Language level 1 classes are being offered in Kemptville, Tuesdays starting October 1, 2019. Level 2 classes will begin on Thursdays starting October 3, 2019. 2 1/2 hours per week for 8 weeks for $295 per person, plus $95 materials cost. These courses are important for Special Education teachers, students wishing to pursue linguistics, plus parents of new babies and young children. Jane Lalonde - Sign Language Teacher - North Grenville
Jane Lalonde is an American Sign Language teacher that will be bringing Level 1 American Sign Language, to North Grenville. Jane has been deaf since birth, but communicates well through lip reading, hearing aids and American Sign Language. The prerequisite for attaining the American Sign Language teaching status, is that each individual must be deaf.
Jane started teaching American Sign Language (ASL) 15 years ago, and then took an extended break until last year, to raise her young children. She took upgrading classes, offered by the Canadian Hearing Society, before returning back to teaching. In 2000, Jane taught International Sign Language to hotel staff members, in preparation for the World Federation of the Deaf Conference that was held in Montreal.
Jane is passionate about teaching, enjoys photography and loves to travel. Jane was born and raised in Montreal, and moved to Cornwall 9 years ago with her husband and their 4 children. She is a graduate of the Social Service Worker Program at St. Lawrence College. Janes’ dream is to work as an Educational Assistant and to continue to teach ASL, in the communities of Cornwall and Kemptville.
